Cotton Bale Quilters
Is ONE Year Old!
It’s hard to believe that a year has already passed by. I tried to recruit the original writer for our Birthday Newsletter but obviously didn’t have any success because I’m writing this. I’ll keep working on him though – this is cutting into my quilting time!
Our first year was a success, we started out with approximately 11 ladies and have grown to a possible 17! The only problem we encountered was our start time being bumped from 9 am to 12:30 pm. When we were informed that we wouldn’t be able to start until 2 pm it was time to move on. A new hall was found and once again we are starting at 9 (or 10) which works better for everyone. Many thanks to Yvette for finding the first hall and starting up Cotton Bale Quilters as well as finding the second hall so we can continue to get together.
Looking forward to many more years to come.

If you were unable to attend our sewing day in March we are planning to make organizer cans in April. You are more than welcome to join us if you would like – following is a list of fabric requirements.
Next sewing day is April 1, 2012 hope you can make it.
If anyone has the Piping Hot Binding Tool or Cut Around Ruler (Cut Around Midi also works) it would be appreciated if they would bring it – this will help with “Wait” times.
I'm trying to put together a little celebration for this occasion – if you are interested in contributing a little something please either phone Jeanette (780) 463-3908 or e-mail jbil123@hotmail.com this way we won't end up with a ton of food. Thanks
Snowball Fun
It started with a paint chip in a sealed envelope,
Maybe I’ll pick one with bright colours, I hope.
A range of blues is what I got,
Perfect colours for a grandson though, is it not?
Now I need to design something extra special,
But also a quilt that will be fun to assemble.
Out comes my patterns and books for ideas,
Need to find one that will be sure to please.
Must use at least two colours, but can use more,
Want to come up with a quilt that Zacharie will adore.
How about a log cabin from light to dark,
And a bit of red for that extra little spark?
That’s not much fun for a sweet little boy,
I want something that will bring him some joy.
Back to the drawing board for something fun,
The deadline is near, and this must get done!
Out to the quilt store in Tofield, I went,
Surely they will have something to make me content.
Looking and looking, but nothing I find,
It’s hard when you can’t even make up your mind.
Around the corner is a perfect snowman panel,
That would be awesome with a backing made of flannel.
Picked out some fabrics for borders and binding,
I should have thought of this from the beginning.
Fabrics beside me, driving home I start thinking,
What will the girls say – am I cheating?
I can’t just add a plain border and call it done,
But if I do some pieced borders, now that would be fun.
The time that was spent on the borders alone,
Made up for the piecing that didn’t get sewn.
I put some snowballs all around this fun snowman,
Now – this is perfect for my little man!
Love, Memère
